Although this represents a 6% decrease from 2023, car theft remains a major concern for vehicle owners. And some cars are rising in popularity, with a surprising new entry in the Top 10.

Here are the top 10 most stolen cars in the UK in 2024, compared to 2023:

Biggest Changes in UK Car Theft Trends (2023 vs. 2024)

The biggest increase in thefts occurred with the Nissan Juke, which saw a 61.5% rise from 636 stolen in 2023 to 1,027 in 2024. This sharp rise suggests the model has become a new target for car thieves, possibly due to security vulnerabilities or increased popularity.

Another notable increase was seen with the Toyota RAV4, with thefts rising 7.8%. The RAV4 is particularly attractive to thieves due to its strong demand in international markets, especially in Africa. Many stolen RAV4s are smuggled out of Europe, where they are valued for their reliability, durability, and ability to handle rough terrains. The ease of exporting these vehicles and their high resale value make them a lucrative target for organized crime groups.

On the other hand, several models experienced a significant drop in theft rates:

  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Theft dropped by 42.7% (from 1,786 to 1,024 stolen vehicles).
  • Range Rover Evoque: Theft decreased by 27.5% (from 1,489 to 1,079 stolen vehicles).
  • Ford Fiesta: Still the most stolen car, but thefts dropped by 25.6%, likely due to improved security measures and the model being phased out.

Overall, car thefts in the UK dropped from 64,087 in 2023 to 53,955 in 2024, a 16% decrease.
